Welcome to the site of Romanian Society of Pathophysiology!

Pathophysiology is the integrative biomedical science that lies at the interface of preclinical and clinical medicine. Founded on the data provided by both basic and clinical research, Pathophysiology allows the knowledge of mechanisms responsible for the initiation, progression, compensation, treatment and healing of pathological processes in humans and animals. By understanding etiopathogenesis of the diseases we can envisage a rational substrate for the correction of functional disturbances, the therapy of diseases and, in particular cases, their prophylaxis.

The aim of this online space is to allow our members to establish cooperation on research, to permanently share ideas / research expertise with the teams belonging to the Chairs of Pathophysiology all over the country and, also, to provide interaction of the fellow members within the discussion forum.

The Romanian Society of Pathophysiology has been founded in 1995 at the initiative of the members of the Chair of Pathophysiology at the "Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iași. The founding faculty members belonged to the Chairs of Pathophysiology of the medical universities from Iași, Timișoara, Bucharest, Cluj, Craiova, and Târgu Mureș.

On this occasion the first meeting of the Romanian Society of Pathophysiology, titled Centenary "Acad. Dr. Iulius Niţulescu", was held in Iași. The centenary of the birth of Acad. Dr. Iulius Niţulescu, mentor of Romanian Pathophysiology, represented the birth act of the series of scientific manifestations of our Society. Participation of Dr. Vladimir Shinkarenko, the general secretary of the International Society of Pathophysiology (ISP) by that time, at the inaugural meeting of the Romanian Society of Pathophysiology has to be mentioned.

Starting with 1995 to date, the members of our Society regularly met within the framework of national conferences organized every 2-3 years (most recently in October 2012 in Timișoara), and on these occasions the voices of Romanian pathophysiologists have been heard by the medical community.

The Romanian Society of Pathophysiology is affiliated to ISP from its constitution and an increasing international participation has become evident during the past national conferences. The presence of members of the ISP Council, e.g. the ISP treasurer, Prof. Dr. László Rosivall (Budapest, HU) who attended the national conference held in Timișoara in October 2007, has also to be acknowledged.
